New Fertilizer Recommendations for Ghana

Summary:

It is recommended that fertilizer producing companies work closely with CSIR-SRI in the development and validation of fertilizer blends for up-scaling with smallholder farmers in the Forest-Savannah Transition and Guinea Savannah zones of Ghana, towards achieving improved cropland productivity for food security, poverty reduction and environmental sustenance.

For the farmers to reap the maximum benefit of fertilizer use, they have to be trained on the 4 Rs, which refers to:

  • Right timing
  • Right quantity
  • Right Placement
  • Right quality of fertilizers.
